This revival of one of Shakspeare's [sic] noblest historical plays has continued, since the first week of November, to attract very good audiences to Drury-lane--Mr. Phelps still maintaining the part of the King, and Miss Atkinson that of Queen Constance; while that of the bastard Falconbridge is played by Mr. James Anderson, and Mr. Swinburne represents the gaoler Hubert. The scenery, painted by Mr. Beverley, is most effective and characteristic, especially the interior of the ancient Gothic hall, with its rich tapestries and hangings; the walls and castle of the beleagured town of Angiers; Northampton Castle likewise, and Swineshead Abbey, near Boston, in Lincolnshire, are set before the spectators with Mr. Beverley's usual success. The last scene, of which we present an Illustration, shows the death of King John on his couch in the cloistered-garden of Swineshead Abbey, where the soft moonlight, mixed with the rays of few lamps or torches, struggles through the mist of the evening, and harmonises witht he solemn interest of the occassion.

It is the second-longest of Shakespeare's plays (after Hamlet) and is rarely performed unabridged. It is believed to have been written c. 1591, making it one of his earliest plays, and concludes his first tetralogy (also containing Henry VI parts 1–3). It is widely considered to be one of Shakespeare's greatest plays, and contains the famous line, "A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse!"

Description : Governor Davey's [sic] Proclamation to the Aborigines, 1816 [sic].
Painting - oil painting on huon pine board, rectangular in shape with rounded corners and hole at top centre for suspension - 35.7 x 22.6 x 1 cm.

The image depicts four scenes:

1. Peaceful intermingling of white settlers and Aborigines, all dressed in European clothing
2. An Aboriginal group shake hands with Governor Arthur watched on by peaceful white soldiers/settlers
3. An Aboriginal man spears a white settler, and is consequently hanged by the military under the watch of Governor Arthur
4. An white settler shoots an Aboriginal man and is consequently hanged by the military under the watch of Governor Arthur

Notes: Some decades after these panels (of unknown number and artist/s) were created, an original was located and mistakenly thought to have been produced during the time of Thomas Davey, Lieutenant Governor of Van Diemen's Land from 1813 to 1817. They were thus incorrectly labelled as "Governor Davey's Proclamation to the Aborigines" (and are still popularly known as such). In fact it depicts Lieutenant-Governor George Arthur's proclamation of c.1828-1830.

Originally conceived by Surveyor General George Frankland as a way of communicating the proclamation to Aborigines, his original drawing was reproduced onto boards and mounted on trees in remote areas of Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) where Aborigines would see them. Later lithographic reproductions were also mislabelled (see Other versions below).

It was originally a pele tower, a strong square structure built in the 14th century as a defence against the invading Scots. Around 1600 a Jacobean mansion was dovetailed around the pele, but in 1850 Sir Charles Barry, who later designed the Houses of Parliament, redesigned it to its current state.

Description : "A British satire on the efforts of Charles James Fox to get the Test and Corporation Acts repealed. Joseph Priestley, preaching, speaks for the concerns of the clergy, stating their opposition to "Reynard and Associates" (Fox, Richard Brinsley Sheridan, John Townshend, and another man, possibly William Windham). Fox asks, "Pray, Doctor is there such a thing as a Devil?" to which Priestley responds with a resounding "NO." The Devil, standing amid flames, is about to skewer Priestley. The Test and Corporation Acts required membership in the Church of England, as well as other religious and civil obligations, for anyone seeking public office. In a touch of irony, the Prince of Wales (George IV) and Maria Fitzherbert, joined in an illegal marriage, sit in a pew on Priestley's left, facing the viewer. That Priestley's "NO" is printed in the same type as the title "A WORD OF COMFORT" suggests a play on words." Etching.

Description : "Drink Coca-Cola 5¢", an 1890s advertising poster showing a woman in fancy clothes (partially vaguely influenced by 16th- and 17th-century styles) drinking Coke. The card on the table says "Home Office, The Coca-Cola Co. Atlanta, Ga. Branches: Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Dallas". Notice the cross-shaped color registration marks near the bottom center and top center (which presumably would have been removed for a production print run). Someone has crudely written on it at lower left (with an apparent leaking fountain pen) "Our Faovrite" [sic]. The women who modeled for this artwork was Hilda Clark (1872-1932).

This photo shows steam rising from hot and sterile deep azure blue water (owing to the light absorbing overtone of an OH stretch which is shifted to 698 nm by hydrogen bonding [1]) in the center surrounded by huge mats of brilliant orange algae and bacteria. The color of which is due to the ratio of chlorophyll to carotenoid molecules produced by the organisms. During summertime the chlorophyll content of the organisms is low and thus the mats appear orange, red, or yellow. However during the winter, the mats are usually dark green, because sunlight is more scarce and the microbes produce more chlorophyll to compensate, thereby masking the carotenoid colors.

Description : A mosaic of nine processed images acquired during Cassini's first very close flyby of Saturn's moon Titan on Oct. 26, 2004, constitutes the most detailed full-disc view of the mysterious moon. The view is centered on 15 degrees South latitude, and 156 degrees West longitude. Brightness variations across the surface and bright clouds near the south pole are easily seen. The images that comprise the mosaic have been processed to reduce the effects of the atmosphere and to sharpen surface features. The mosaic has been trimmed to show only the illuminated surface and not the atmosphere above the edge of the moon. The Sun was behind Cassini so nearly the full disc is illuminated. Pixels scales of the composite images vary from 2 to 4 kilometers per pixel (1.2 to 2.5 miles per pixel). Surface features are best seen near the center of the disc, where the spacecraft is looking directly downwards; the contrast becomes progressively lower and surface features become fuzzier towards the outside, where the spacecraft is peering through haze, a circumstance that washes out surface features. The brighter region on the right side and equatorial region is named Xanadu Regio. Scientists are actively debating what processes may have created the bizarre surface brightness patterns seen here. The images hint at a young surface with, no obvious craters. However, the exact nature of that activity, whether tectonic, wind-blown, fluvial, marine, or volcanic is still to be determined. The images comprising this mosaic were acquired from distances ranging from 650,000 kilometers (400,000 miles) to 300,000 kilometers (200,000 miles).
